NFL Teams Don’t Think Colts Negotiated In Good Faith For Jonathan Taylor

Could the Indianapolis Colts end up holding on to running back Jonathan Taylor after all?

It’s looking more and more like that may be the end result.

Taylor, who is currently on the PUP list while he recovers from an ankle injury he suffered late last season, is embroiled in a contract dispute with the Colts due to the fact that they refused to give him a new contract. In turn, Taylor asked for a trade, and Indianapolis gave him permission to seek one.

However, nothing legitimate has come to fruition at this point.

The Colts entertained trade offers from the Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins last month, but talks did not go very far. With Taylor eligible to return in Week 5 and with the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline looming, many expected trade discussions between Indianapolis and rival clubs to ramp up. The problem is, Indy is apparently asking for a massive haul in return for Taylor, and the organization is not budging.

That has led teams to wonder just how serious the Colts are about moving their star halfback.

CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones has reported that several clubs around the league believe that Indianapolis has never had a true intention to trade Taylor. Indianapolis initially set its asking price at a first-round draft pick or a return that was equal to a first-round pick, which was a demand that was unlikely to ever be met.

There were reports late last week that Indy was willing to accept less than its original request, but evidently, the Colts haven’t budged enough for any productive discussions to occur.

One unnamed executive asked if Taylor ever had “any legitimate places to go.”

Jonathan Taylor is now in his fourth NFL season. He led the league in both rushing yards (1,811) and rushing touchdowns (18) in 2021.
