Running Backs
Running back is going to be one of the deepest positions on the team in Green Bay. LaFleur likes to run the football and establish the ground game which makes depth extremely important. On paper, depth is something that the Packers will have in the backfield.
Aaron Jones thrived under LaFleur. He carried the ball 236 times for 1,084 yards and 16 touchdowns. Jones started all 16 games for the Packers and could do the same in 2020. This will be the final year of Jones’ rookie deal and an extension has not been signed yet. It is unknown if there will be one, especially since the Packers added A.J. Dillon in the second round of the 2020 draft.
Quarterback in the first and running back in the second. Dillon had an impressive career at Boston College. He will be No. 2 on the depth chart behind Jones. It will be interesting to see how LaFleur decides to split carries. With Dillon in the mix, Jones is unlikely to exceed 200 carries. Jamaal Williams is also in the mix. He played 14 games in 2019 and showed strong ability as a receiver out of the backfield.
Green Bay will likely carry four running backs. Tyler Ervin is the favorite to land the fourth spot but Dexter Williams will provide some competition in camp. No matter how LaFleur splits the carries, he will ave plenty of options given the personnel. This is a strong unit for Green Bay heading into the season.
