Wide Receivers
From one of the deepest positions on the team to easily the worst unit. The Packers had a glaring need at wide receiver opposite Davante Adams entering the offseason. They did little to improve. The big move was signing Devin Funchess on a one-year, prove it deal following a broken clavicle in Week 1 of 2019.
The Packers will not be able to use Funchess since he has opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19. This leaves the Packers in need of help. Despite the lack of depth at the position, Green Bay opted not to draft a receiver in the deepest class in draft history in 2020. Adams led the team in receiving with 997 yards. He is a 1,000 yard guy if healthy for all 16 games. Adams also led the team with 83 catches. The alarming statistic is that Jones was second in catches followed by Williams and Jimmy Graham.
Allen Lazard was fifth on the team in catches and second in yards with 477. He is No. 2 on the depth chart followed by Marquez Caldes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown. This is a bad unit on paper. The Packers need a young receiver to step up and step up in a big way. Green Bay has spoken out in a positive way regarding their young receiving corps. They do not have much of a choice considering they do not have many other options.
LaFleur must have a plan. It still seems strange that the Packers did not draft a receiver but went for a quarterback and running back with their first two picks. The only upside is that Adams is still there and Rodgers will be under center.
