What Should The Patriots Expect From Julian Edelman This Season?

Quite simply, the Patriots have a ton of unknowns that must be answered this season on the offensive side of the football.

Can Cam Newton get back to being the star that he once was? Will Sony Michel and the running game pick things up? Is the passing game dangerous enough?

Edelman will have a big part of both the first and last questions in that trio. If Newton is going to get back to being a star, he needs elite weapons. Also, if the team’s passing game is going to be dangerous, they need their veteran star to step up with a big year.

Granted, Edelman is 34 years old and is at the end of his prime. However, he still has another big season or two left in him.

With all of that being said, what should the Patriots be expecting from Edelman in 2020?

Another big season would be the easy answer. It would be reasonable to expect another 90 receptions for 950 yards and six or seven touchdowns. He could even improve that touchdown total, depending on how the other wide receivers on the roster perform.

New England may not end up winning or making the Super Bowl, but they are not going to be a pushover either. Belichick isn’t going to accept anything less than contention. With Edelman, Newton, Michel, and the rest of the offense and a talented defense, the Patriots are going to be tough.

Expect to see Julian Edelman step up in a big way this season. The Patriots need veteran leadership now more than ever and he will come through for his team in a big way.
