Darnell Savage Jr., Safety
Last year in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Packers made a bold move to trade up in the first round to select safety Darnell Savage Jr. Gutekunst made it clear all offseason long that he was focused on improving the defense. While he may not have received a ton of national hype, Savage was a massive improvement for the Green Bay secondary.
When everything was said and done, the rookie finished the year with 55 total tackles to go along with two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and five defended passes. He formed a lethal duo at safety with Adrian Amos.
Green Bay is set for the foreseeable future at safety with Savage and Amos. Mike Pettine has no excuses to be shabby in the back of defense. Savage still has a ton of room to develop as well, which should excite Packers fans.
