Ranking the NFL’s top MVP candidates entering Week 6

Derek Carr, Raiders

5. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

Derek Carr is turning heads out in Las Vegas. Over the offseason there was some speculation on Carr’s future in Las Vegas. It seems as though all of that has been nothing but motivation for the 29-year-old veteran. Carr is putting together a stellar season. If this continues then it should put any thoughts of moving away from Derek Carr to rest. Right now, the Raiders QB has only one goal, and that is to win games. He doesn’t have any dominant receivers. However, Carr is spreading the ball to his weapons and it’s paying off in a big way.

The Raiders are using their running back Josh Jacobs a lot this year, but that doesn’t mean they don’t trust Derek Carr. He is hitting on the big throws downfield. Carr is limiting the turnovers as well. Until last week he hasn’t thrown an interception. If he really wants to make a case for MVP two things must happen. The first is the Raiders must stick to their mantra and “Just Win Baby”. The second is Carr must limit the fumbles. He’s only been sacked 8 times but has 3 fumbles.

Until last week I’ve been hesitant to put my faith in Derek Carr. However, he has been great so far this season. The Raiders two losses were not on him, they were more on defensive struggles. After out-dealing Patrick Mahomes Carr got a big statement win. For now, I am putting him at number 5 on the MVP Power rankings.
