Development of Jameis Winston

The situation the New Orleans Saints have with Jameis Winston is rather unprecedented and it will be fascinating to follow. He went from leading the NFL in passing yards (5,109) and throwing 33 touchdown passes, to being Drew Brees’ backup.

Having a year to develop behind Brees in the Saints’ system could be precisely what Winston needs to cut down on his count of 30 turnovers from 2019. It’s a radically different approach to offense than the ‘no risk it, no biscuit’ style of play with Bruce Arians.

Winston undoubtedly has a lot of talent being able to make tough throws often in ways that simply can’t be tough. He just needs his talent to be utilized by the right team to help sort through his turnovers.

If the Saints like what they see from Winston throughout the upcoming season, it will be interesting to see if they retain him. His value will likely be limited unless he gets an opportunity like Teddy Bridgewater did last season due to an injury to Brees.
