Alvin Kamara Entering a Contract Year
After playing through an injury-plagued season in 2019, Alvin Kamara will look to re-establish his prominence among the NFL’s top running backs during the upcoming season. It also just so happens to be a contract year, adding even more intrigue.
The production ESPN projects Kamara having in 2020 with the Saints features totals of 268 touches, 1,457 total yards from scrimmage, and 11 combines touchdowns. A lot of that is from carries but plenty is from receiving plays, too.
It’s always a difficult topic of discussion when the conversation is centered around a talented running back needing a contract extension. Kamara has additional value beyond that type of player considering his receiving ability out of the backfield.
There is a possibility the NFL salary cap will decline next offseason and that could add complication to Kamara’s situation. Before Mickey Loomis attempts to work any of his usual magic, the Saints face the most restrictive cap health in the NFL for 2021.
