Running Backs

The Vikings’ running back group is led by one of the top in the league. Dalvin Cook had a breakout season in 2020 with 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. He added 53 catches for 519 yards. The only question mark entering training camp is whether Cook will report to camp.

Cook is entering the final year of his contract. In June, he said that he would not report to camp if an extension was not done. As of now, Cook is at the Vikings’ facilities and is expected to report.

This is good news for Minnesota. After Cook, Alexander Mattison and Mike Boone are on the depth chart. These two combined for 149 carries and four touchdowns in 2019.

Fullback C.J. Ham was used in short yardage situations last season and it is hard to imagine that he will take on an extended role moving forward. Minnesota also has Amber Abdullah on the roster. The Vikings like to run the football and if Cook can stay healthy, this is something that they will do often this season.
