There is plenty of news coming out of D.C. recently. The Washington NFL franchise announced earlier in the week that they have retired the second half of their name and will be in search of a new one. More importantly, there was a disturbing report about rampant sexual harassment involving members of the organization.
There is always something happening with the team off the field. As for on the field, Washington is going through a rebuild that could take some time. It took a big step forward during the 2020 NFL Draft when the team added Chase Young with the second overall pick. It officially began in 2019 when Washington rafted Dwayne Haskins with their first-round pick.
As a rookie, Haskins played in nine games and made seven starts. He did not put up stats that will jump off the page which brought criticism to the former Buckeye. Naysayers are quick to judge a young quarterback despite only starting seven games and playing on a team with an inept offense and poor coaching staff. That Gould change in 2020 with Ron Rivera on the sideline.
It is unfair to judge Haskins off his rookie season. We will learn a lot during year two. If he is a flop, the Redskins could have a chance to draft either Trevor Lawrence, who is projected to be an Andrew Luck type prospect, or Justin Fields. If Haskins has a strong campaign, there will be a lot of apologies sent his way.
Let’s see if we can justify two extremely bold predictions for Haskins during his second year in the nation’s capital.
