Provides Needed Size at Receiver
The pursuit of a reliable big-bodied receiver has gone on for years for the Indianapolis Colts with little success. There has been little success for them and it has limited the potential of their offense.
Heading into the 2019 season, the Colts anticipated that Devin Funchess would fill this particular role. There were valid questions surrounding his impact but he wasn’t even afforded an opportunity to prove himself after suffering a season-ending injury in Week 1.
The Colts faced a need to finally find that big-bodied receiving talent that can complement T.Y. Hilton in the X receiver role with the addition of Michael Pittman Jr. He stands at 6-4 and 223 pounds and clocked in at a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash.
While Pittman Jr. still needs to prove himself in the NFL, he displays a nice blend of size and speed along with reliable hands. There’s a consistency element to his game in the more basic areas for an X receiver. However, he also provides success in contested-catch scenarios, too.
