Titans’ Ryan Tannehill gets the edge over Vikings’ Kirk Cousins
When thinking of these two QB’s and what they bring to a team, the blind answer would surely be Kirk Cousins. However, it’s Ryan Tannehill who will come out with the better season in 2020. The reason for that is, the Titans are not flashy and will do whatever it takes to win.
The Minnesota Vikings are built on speed with Adam Thielin and Dalvin Cook. If both players are locked down, the Vikings will have trouble where the Tennesse Titans excel.
In breaking down the importance of Tannehill and Cousins, it’s closer than one may think. Look at the 2019 stats. Cousins passed for 3603 yards and 26 touchdowns in 16 starts. Tannehill passed for 2742 and 22 touchdowns in 10 starts.
If Tannehill were to add those six extra games to his season, his numbers will be greater than Cousins who had better playmakers around him. Then it comes down to trust and wins. This is where Tannehill has the advantage.
Kirk Cousins did manage to win 10 regular season games compared to the Titans nine but the Titans went 7-3 in the regular season under Tannehill. Statistics-wise, the analysts may give the nod to Cousins but team-wise, the nod will have to go to Tannehill. The main objective is to lead your team to as many wins as possible in hopes of winning the Super Bowl.
Tannehill plays it smart and will make sure he has the Titans in the best possible position to win. Does he have the same pressure that Cousins have? Yes and no. Cousins was signed to take the Vikings to the next level whereas Tannehill was brought in to hold a clipboard.
What Tannehill was able to do to end the season and then the playoffs was nothing short of remarkable. He was blessed with a new four-year extension with $188 million and now all eyes will be on him to excel.
Even with that new deal, Ryan Tannehill will not falter. The run the Titans went on last season should have his confidence at a level Cousins can only hope his is. Tannehill is armed with a stout defense, the best RB in the NFL, and an emerging receiver in A.J. Brown.
Kirk Cousins has talent surrounding him but he has not been one to face the pressure and come out on top.
