Will Open Up the Raiders’ Offense

While the Raiders didn’t end up moving on from Derek Carr, the upcoming 2020 season will be crucial for his future with the team. With the selection of Henry Ruggs III, the situation could end up changing as he will help to open up the field for everyone else.

Last season, the Raiders’ leading receiver was Darren Waller with 90 receptions, 1,145 yards, and three receptions. Next up was Tyrell Williams (651 yards) and Hunter Renfrow (605 yards) combining for just barely more receiving yards than Waller.

It’s clear the Raiders needed more dynamic wide receiver talent heading into the offseason. Adding Ruggs III into the mix will enable Williams and Renfrow to line up against easier matchups on a more frequent basis while having the top of the defense worrying about a deep-threat.

The Raiders don’t have an entirely complete unit around the quarterback position quite yet, but they have made real progress lately. It’s been enough to at least provide Carr with an opportunity to make one last case for himself before making a change at quarterback after the 2020 season.
