It was a strange season for Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At some moments he appeared to be spectacular while in others, he made confusing mistakes that were troubling to see.
The Buccaneers ultimately decided to move on from Winston after he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 30 touchdowns and 30 interception in the same season. It was a perfect representation of his ‘feast or famine’ style of play.
There is reason to question whether Winston is receiving an unfair amount of criticism. Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin recently agreed with that notion, calling Winston a ‘really, really talented quarterback’ and stating perhaps half of his interceptions were someone else’s fault.
“I definitely think he got more of the blame than he deserved,” Godwin said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN. “I think he’s a really, really talented quarterback. Obviously there are things that he does that you can’t teach, and there are plays that he made that just weren’t smart plays.”
“But a lot of the mistakes and interceptions that he made, I would say half of them were because of a bad read on someone else’s part.”
Despite leading the NFL in passing yards (5,109) last season, Winston seems headed for a backup role in 2020. What’s most important is that he stays ready to step in and make an impact in the event the opportunity to play in the regular season were to come at times.
With that being said, there are three potential landing spots for Jameis Winston that stand out as perfect fits.
