Willie Gay Jr.
Over the past few months leading up to the draft, it’s been considered that the Ravens could select a linebacker in the first round. In that case, Patrick Queen and Kenneth Murray would be the likely candidates for Baltimore with the No. 28 pick.
The reason for Baltimore’s need at inside linebacker stems from the departure of C.J. Mosley in free agency a year ago. This past season, Patrick Onwuasor replaced Mosley, but was unable to give the Ravens a reason to keep him. Ironically enough, Onwuasor signed with the New York Jets this offseason, reuniting with Mosley.
Given Baltimore’s need at linebacker, Willie Gay Jr. could be an enticing option in the second round. At Mississippi State, Gay didn’t have much tape to show NFL teams, as he served multiple suspensions in college.
But when Gay did get a chance to play, he flashed potential to be a versatile linebacker in the NFL. Despite the red flags involving his suspensions at Mississippi State, Gay could find himself becoming a mainstay on the Ravens’ defense for years to come.
