The asking price has gone down
The main source for hesitation when it comes to the thought of adding a big free agent is usually the cost necessary to pull it off. The original asking price that Jadeveon Clowney was seeking early in free agency was more than $20 million per season. That’s no longer the case.
Based on a report by ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Clowney is now seeking a contract that pays in the range annually of $17 million and $18 million. His new asking price may not be a massive drop off but it should at least help some teams that still have money to spend to put more thought into it.
If the Browns wanted to make a real run at Clowney, they’d have the cap space to get it done. For reference, Cleveland has nearly $43.6 million in cap space (top 51 of roster). That’s even after signing plenty of talented free agents while also bringing back some key players.
