Earlier Additions Weren’t Enough
The additions the Jets made earlier in the offseason at the cornerback were respectable and the overall talent at the position is solid. There just simply wasn’t enough talent at the top of the cornerback rotation and that’s where Logan Ryan comes into play.
Earlier in the offseason, the Jets used a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on former Virginia cornerback Bryce Hall. That came after signing Pierre Desir shortly after his release from the Indianapolis Colts and in addition to the trade for Quincy Wilson.
The 2019 season was a disappointment for Desir but he claims to have played through an injury that limited his impact. He was an impactful player the season prior so there is reason to believe in the upside of this move, especially when considering it’s low risk.
It’s tough to place a significant amount of trust in a rookie, even if Hall was supposed to go much earlier in the NFL Draft. It’s also tough to trust a reclamation project like Wilson when his issue has been an inability to turn potential into actual impact.
