Improve Pass Coverage
The New York Jets are coming off a season that featured relatively middle of the pack results when it came to pass coverage. The AFC requires greater results than that to compete at a high-level considering the conference will likely continue to run through the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last season, the Jets gave up 3,779 passing yards (16th), 25 passing touchdowns (T-13th), and 12 interceptions (T-17th) as a defense. The key for New York will be to manage to go from being decent at stopping opposing passing attacks to reaching the top 10 when stacked up with other units.
When factoring in the Jets already produced impactful results in run defense last season, the overall results of the unit will take a jump when they improve in pass coverage. That’s where adding Logan Ryan comes into play, especially after releasing Tremaine Johnson.
When factoring in Ryan has shown an ability to make an impact against the run and as a pass rusher in addition to being able to cover the slot and the boundary, it’s easy to see the rationale behind the signing. The impact trickles through a multitude of areas both directly and indirectly.
