Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The safety position was a clear need for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to address heading into the offseason. It was a key reason the team struggled to slow down the passing attacks of opposing teams as they gave up an average of 270.1 passing yards (30th) in 2019.
The Buccaneers ended up adding talent to their safety group by selecting Antoine Winfield Jr. from Minnesota with the No. 45 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. While he brings versatility and an ability to make an impact in pass coverage, it may take time to adjust to the NFL level.
The Buccaneers should look to take it a step further by adding a more proven safety with ball skills like Malik Hooker. They simply didn’t receive enough impact from Andrew Adams and while they brought him back in free agency, it’s not too late to make an upgrade.
There are still a lot of questions surrounding Justin Evans considering he has struggled to stay healthy and make a positive impact. Heading into the 2020 season with underwhelming veterans and a rookie wouldn’t be the best way the best route for the Buccaneers.
