Improvement to the Running Game

What is the best compliment to a strong offensive line? A good running back. The Indianapolis Colts not only have one but two very good running backs. Marlon Mack is coming off a strong 2019 season and with the addition of Jonathan Taylor, their new duo is going to push the run game to the next level.

Taylor has tons of potential and could very well serve as an every-down back if he needed to. The beauty is that he doesn’t need to. Having one back work his way towards 30 carries spells trouble when that back is gassed by the fourth quarter. The constant pounding on the body could lead to injuries when the back creeps closer to 300 carries on a season. Instead, the Colts look like they’re going to constantly have two backs with fresh legs.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Colts lead the league in total rushing yards this season. I could also see both Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor surpass 1,000 yards each. Two backs (Lamar Jackson doesn’t count) over 1,000 yards hasn’t happened since 2009 when Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams did it with the Panthers.
