Dominant Offensive Line
Quenton Nelson is the leader of this dominant Indianapolis Colts offensive line. When they picked a guard at 6th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, some experts thought it was a bit high. There was no denying his talent, but guards just seem so boring. However, watching Nelson dominate opposing defensive lineman is everything but boring.
The Nelson selection started a new ground-and-pound style for the Colts. Gone are the days of Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck throwing the football as the focus of the offense. Indianapolis is going to shove the ball right down the defense’s throat.
Aside from Nelson, veterans such as Anthony Castonzo and Ryan Kelly know how to dominate their opposition as well. Rounding out the offensive line is one of the NFL’s more underrated lineman Braden Smith and a solid guard in Mark Glowinski. Offensive lineman usually don’t get the praise they deserve, but in the Colts’ case they are the heart and soul of the offense.
Having a good offensive line is extremely important. Poor offensive line play can neutralize an effective running back while an impactful unit can turn an average back into a Pro Bowler. A good offensive line will give a QB more time and make him feel less pressured. This, in turn, allows receivers to get open and it opens up the playbook for more shots downfield.
Having a strong offensive line simply gives your team a chance and the Colts have one of the best units in the NFL.
