5. The 49ers Post a Shutout

The 49ers have an excellent defense and the Jets have a weak offense — making this matchup a potential shutout. Although San Francisco lost in Week 1 to the Cardinals, Arizona has a greatly improved offense with a very mobile quarterback in Kyler Murray and an elite WR1 in DeAndre Hopkins.

While the 49ers do need to improve on some aspects, they will turn those mistakes around this week. A highly motivated San Francisco defense going up against a short-handed Jets offense has the makings for this matchup to be a demoralizing one for New York.

While this Jets offense may be able to move the football, they won’t be able to score. The 49ers will shut things down before the Jets are able to reach the red zone. New York doesn’t have the big-play threats that can score outside of the red zone — making it incredibly difficult to put up points, overall.

Another reason why the 49ers will shut the Jets out is that they will control the clock. The Jets will not have very many opportunities on offense this week. If they want to score, they will need more than just a handful of opportunities to do so.

This could be another rough week for the Jets, but it may be what they need in order to make changes that better influences their future. Not many outcomes send a more of a clear message than being shutout and getting off to an 0-2 start to the season.
