Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the fifth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Buccaneers selected Auburn’s Cadillac Williams. As a rookie, Williams showed promise by rushing for 1,178 yards and six touchdowns. However, injuries derailed his career, and Williams never rushed for over 1,000 yards again.
Jon Gruden coached the Buccaneers from 2002 to 2008. After passing on Aaron Rodgers, Gruden led the team to two playoff berths (2005 and 2007), which both resulted in Wild Card Round losses. Since the 2007 defeat, the Buccaneers have not made the playoffs.
Over the past 15 seasons, Tampa Bay produced five winning seasons. Unfortunately, the team got unlucky three times, missing the playoffs with a 10-6 record in 2010 and 9-7 records in 2008 and 2016.
Bruce Arians, who the Buccaneers hired last year, is the team’s sixth head coach since 2005. Embattled former first overall pick Jameis Winston, who Arians coached last year, was the seventh quarterback to lead the team in passing yards since 2005.
Tampa Bay falls to fourth because the franchise finally looks like it’s headed in the right direction. The team signed Tom Brady this offseason, moving on from Winston. Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, and now he joins a loaded offensive unit with a quarterback friendly head coach.
