Will Nick Foles or Mitch Trubisky be the starting QB in Week 1?
Once again, the most noteworthy move the Bears made this offseason was manufacturing a trade for Foles. There’s no doubt the best move that Chicago made was signing Robert Quinn, pairing him with Khalil Mack off of the edge.
Along with trading for Foles though, the Bears also declined the fifth-year option for Trubisky — making him a free agent in 2021. Provided that, all of the pressure is on Trubisky to perform well as he enters a pivotal year in his career.
Ever since he was taken as the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, Trubisky has been heavily scrutinized for his poor play under center — and deservedly so. Last season, Trubisky finished with a true passer rating of 74, which was 32nd in the NFL.
Given Trubisky’s underwhelming play in his first three seasons, Foles has a decent chance to unseat him as the starter in 2020. Could Foles be the better option for Nagy’s offense? Or does Trubisky deserve another chance to prove himself? Regardless of who Nagy believes is the starter, the performance of Foles or Trubisky will determine the results of Chicago’s upcoming season.
