Denver Broncos: 3 Players to Watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Bears

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos will take on the Chicago Bears in Week 2 of NFL Preseason action. The Broncos kicked off their preseason by losing to the Minnesota Vikings 42-28 last week. It was an unusual shootout in a preseason game that featured two great defenses. It’s funny seeing everyone overreact to preseason games, especially in Week 1 nonetheless. There were a couple bright spots for the Broncos despite losing.

One was the play of rookie quarterback Chad Kelly. If anyone’s ever watched Last Chance U (Netflix Series), you would know Kelly had a rough start to his college career. He was first red-shirted by Clemson before being dismissed from the team due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” Kelly then transferred to Eastern Mississippi Community College (please watch Last Chance U, it’s so good), a junior college that helps guys who need another shot at making it to a Division 1 school. After playing well at EMCC, he attended Ole Miss where he picked up where he left off at EMCC. Now, he’s become “Mr. Irrelevant” (last player taken in the NFL Draft), where he’ll be fighting for the backup quarterback spot.

Kelly performed very well in his first game in the NFL, throwing for 177 yards, completing 14 of 21 attempts, two touchdowns and one interception. He also showed his ability to be a threat with his legs, rushing for 38 yards on three rushes. The Broncos have another game this week to improve on the previous week, this time against the Bears.

There’s a few players to pay close attention to in the Broncos contest against the Bears in Week 2 of preseason action.
