JJ Arcega-Whiteside Shows Improvement

There is always strong excitement from fans surrounding early round draft picks before they play out their rookie campaign. However, it doesn’t take long for that to tone down after the games begin if big results aren’t achieved. JJ Arcega-Whiteside was no exception to this trend.

It doesn’t take long to see the struggling results Whiteside provided the Philadelphia Eagles on the limited volume of targets (22) he received. Look no further than the abysmal 45.5 percent catch rate he produced. When he did haul in passes, he averaged an impressive 16.9 yards per reception.

The volume of targets Whiteside received wasn’t substantial so it’s tough to put too much stock into that efficiency rate. Regardless, it’s important he displays growth whenever he passes are thrown his way, and if he does, a larger role could be in store for him as the season progresses.

With the uncertainty surrounding Alshon Jeffery’s future with the Eagles, the 2020 season will be Whiteside’s best chance to solidify his outlook for a long-term role. Showing enough potential could be enough to command confidence from Philadelphia.
