Matthews Will Lead the Packers to a Top-Five Defense
Finally, but certainly not least importantly, the Packers’ defense will take a major leap as a whole in 2018. Over the past few years, the Green Bay offense has been unable to outscore opposing teams in key games. Their defense has been the reason they have been eliminated from the playoffs on a few different occasions.
With the addition of Pettine and the improved secondary, the Packers are going to become a top-five defense. It may be a bit hard to believe, but stranger things have happened.
New general manager Brian Gutekunst went out and made major additions to the defense. Muhammad Wilkerson was the biggest offseason addition for the defense, but Tramon Williams was a quality addition as well. Gutekunst also drafted cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson along with linebacker Oren Burks.
Green Bay may not end up winning a Super Bowl this season, but it won’t be because their defense is sub-par this time around.
