Minnesota Vikings: 5 Training Camp Underdogs to Watch

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Roc Thomas

Coming out of high school Roc Thomas was considered one of the top running backs in his class and committed to Auburn. After two seasons at Auburn, he transferred to Jacksonville State, apparently over lack of playing time. The two running backs on this list contrast quite a bit in game. Thomas is slightly smaller than Mike Boone at 5-foot-11 and 198 pounds but also lacks the raw athletic ability that Boone has.

What Thomas has over Boone is a track record of production. Thomas also has very good vision and the ability to catch the ball. He may be small but runs big and is hard to bring down which may remind some of Percy Harvin, though Thomas isn’t as athletically gifted. While not gifted with speed he accelerates in small places well and has some shifty running ability as well. It may be difficult to crack the 53 man given the Vikings are likely to keep four running backs. Cook, Murray, and Ham are likely to get spots which leaves just one spot for Thomas, Boone and the rest of the running backs in camp.
