Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Week 2 matchup: vs. Detroit Lions, Sunday, Sept. 20
Four touchdowns once again
Rodgers looked like he played with a chip on his shoulder in the opener. He finished 32-44 for 356 yards and four touchdowns. He did not turn the ball over which is no surprise given his numbers over the last few years. The Packers traded up to draft Jordan Love in the first-round of April’s draft.
Rodgers is not done yet. He received unwarranted criticism in the offseason and it looks as though he wants to quiet those critics. Another four touchdown game to begin the season will go a long way in doing so. Eight touchdowns with no turnovers through two weeks will put Rodgers right at the top of the league.
Continues to develop young receivers
The sign of a great quarterback is being successful with young or unproven receivers. That is what Rodgers did in Week 1 against the Vikings. Yes, Davante Adams was his usual self with 14 catches for 156 yarda and two touchdowns. He was not the only productive receiver for Green Bay.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling turned in a strong performance with four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Allen Lazard also added 60 yards and a score. Rodgers was talking highly of his young receiving corps in the preseason and he is proving that he was right. No. 12 will continue to help his receivers be successful against Detroit.
