3. New England Patriots
It is no secret that the New England Patriots did not feature their usual depth at the skill positions in 2019. Outside of Julian Edelman, they did not have much to work with. They will have even less now with Tom Brady leaving for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Enter Cam Newton for 2020.
Newton is signed for just this season but could get a new deal if he performs well. If not, it could be Jarrett Stidham time. Either way, it is smart to bring in some weapons for the quarterback. Edelman will be joined by Mohamed Sanu Sr. and N’Keal Harry in 2020. This is underwhelming, especially when looking at the unknown factor at the tight end position.
The Patriots drafted two tight ends in the third round of the 2020 draft. Both Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene will be featured in the offense during their first season. The days of Rob Gronkowski are over. The Patriots were unable to make it past the Titans in the postseason scoring just 13 points and zero in the second half.
New England is a team that has done well with veteran receivers in the past. Bill Belichick is an excellent talent evaluator. If AJ Green has anything left in the tank following the 2020 season, he could be a Patriot in 2021.
