5. New York Jets
The New York Jets have been an underwhelming team for years now. They have not made the postseason since 2010 and will not until Adam Gase is let go. With that being said, the Jets have a promising young quarterback in Sam Darnold that needs to take the next step as a starter. It will be difficult to do so with the current receiving corps.
The Jets drafted Denzel Mims during the 2020 NFL Draft and signed Breshad Perriman in free agency. They will join slot receiver Jamison Crowder and tight end Chris Herndon. Darnold has a chance to improve greatly this season because New York completely revamped the offensive line. Other than that, Darnold will not have much to work with, other than Le’Veon Bell in the backfield.
New York is a team that has been in need of a dominant No. 1 receiver, something they have not had since Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Green used to be that type of receiver and the Jets could look to get a couple good years out of him. He will also serve as a mentor for Mims. The Baylor product has a high-ceiling but it is unlikely that he will come in and have a huge impact right away.
The Jets are a team that just needs solid football players. That is what AJ Green is despite his age and injury concerns. This is a chance for New York to bring in a star on a budget price.
