4. New England Patriots
The Tom Brady era is officially over in New England. The Patriots looked like they were going to have a quarterback battle between Jarrett Stidham and Brian Homer during training camp. They ended up signing Cam Newton to a bargain contract for the 2020 season.
Sony Michel has been a solid option in the backfield during his first two years in the league. He has run for over 900 yards in each season and has scored 13 touchdowns. James White acts as a receiver out of the backfield and is dynamic in the short pass game. He burst onto the scene after scoring three touchdowns in the Patriots’ miracle 28-3 comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl. White will enter the final year of his contract in 2020.
The Patriots are another team that has built a strong defense led by Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore. Brady will not be under center anymore to carry the team with a lack of skill position players. They will need to add some and soon. If Newton as a strong season, he could be signed beyond 2020. He has played with Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara has a similar skill set.
