Kansas City Chiefs

Before the decision for Damien Williams to opt-out of the 2020 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs’ running back position likely would have topped the list. Instead, Clyde Edwards-Helaire will enter as the undisputed No. 1 option on the depth chart.

Another opt-out has created a new need for the Chiefs to have to address; right guard. Initially, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif decided to pull out of the upcoming season, who was originally slotted to start.

The expectation for the Chiefs was that Lucas Niang could compete for the spot to fill in for Duvernay-Tardif, who was a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Niang also decided to sit out for what would have been his rookie campaign, meaning two fewer potential options.

The Chiefs recently signed Kelechi Osemele to compete with Mike Remmers and Martinas Rankin for the starting right guard role. Osemele is considered the favorite for this role and having valuable experience playing at a Pro Bowl level earlier in his career should only help.
