San Francisco 49ers
There were a variety of changes that occurred on the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive line. The team lost Joe Staley to retirement and faced a real need to find a replacement. They accomplished this by trading for Trent Williams from the Washington Football Team.
However, there is more to the 49ers’ offensive line that must be sorted out. The 49ers moved on from Mike Pearson and then he subsequently decided to retire from his NFL career. This was a spot San Francisco didn’t have a clear pathway to address.
The current options the 49ers have when it comes to filling the spot Person previously occupied include Daniel Brunskill and Tom Compton. Neither option is favorable but someone will have to come out on top and step up in this role.
Compton is coming off a season-ending calf injury after starting in five games for the New York Jets. He has eight years of NFL experience and that could provide a real edge when considering Brunskill has appeared in 14 appearances in his career with half being starts.
