Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns
The level of production Baker Mayfield provided the Cleveland Browns during his rookie season was impressive. He managed to set the NFL single-season record for most touchdown passes by a rookie with 27 despite appearing in just 14 games.
If there is someone who embodied the sophomore slump in 2019, it was Mayfield. His completion percentage dropped to 59.4 percent and he threw just 22 touchdowns. Perhaps most troubling of all was that his turnovers ballooned as he racked up 21 interceptions.
It’s clear Freddie Kitchens was a detriment for each of the Browns’ talented offensive players, but none more than Mayfield. With Kevin Stefanski now at the helm, there is plenty of reason for optimism surrounding the franchise quarterback heading into his third season.
The offseason moves the Browns made added talent around the star wide receiver duo of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Cleveland made a splash by signing Austin Hooper and then made it a point to upgrade both tackle positions on the offensive line. All of which should help Mayfield.
