Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears
Since recording 15.0 sacks in his second season in the NFL, Khalil Mack has been one of the more dynamic players in the league. That hasn’t changed since the Chicago Bears traded for him. However, the 2019 season was underwhelming for the star.
Last season was the worst statistical season of Mack’s career aside from his rookie campaign. He recorded just 8.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and 14 QB hits. Those figures may still sound impressive, but the set of standards the Bears star has set for himself require much greater results.
It’s quite difficult for elite pass rushers to maintain such strong production year-after-year. Opposing teams make it a point to send additional blocking help to slow down the dynamic talents, whether it’s an outright double-team, using backfield help, or chipping with the tight end.
The return of Akiem Hicks along with having a new defensive coordinator should help Mack improve his production in 2020. There won’t be nearly as much flexibility for opposing teams to double Mack with Hicks back in the mix. With that being the case, Mack could flourish.
