JuJu Smith-Schuster, Pittsburgh Steelers
The 2018 campaign Schuster had for the Steelers was nothing short. of remarkable. He hauled in 111 catches for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns, which raised the expectations for his third-year as high as one could imagine.
Some are down on Schuster after he struggled to succeed after Ben Roethlisberger went down with a season-ending elbow injury. Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges were relied on to start 14 combined games and their lack of impact was crippling to the Steelers’ offense.
The underwhelming quarterback play of the Steelers from last season cannot be overstated. Pittsburgh was the only team in the NFL to record more interceptions (19) than touchdown throws (18). Players like JuJu Smith-Schuster experienced heavy declines in production as a result.
With Roethlisberger back in the lineup to start the upcoming season, it’s reasonable to expect big things from Schuster. That’s assuming the long-time Steelers QB can manage to stay healthy. With Roethlisberger’s track record of playing through injuries, it seems likely to happen.
