San Francisco 49ers
If the San Francisco 49ers can get away with giving up a 3rd rounder for Amari Cooper, then they should do so in a heartbeat. The 49ers wide receiving core is lacking a true talent all around talent. Marquise Goodwin is a solid speed receiver, but after that, really don’t have anyone. Amari makes too much sense for this team. That’s because of how perfect of a fit he’d be in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s system.Amari Cooper has yet to be matched with a coach that can scheme him open. Every play caller he’s had relies on him to win his matchups. It’s all on him to get open and nothing else, which is actually impressive. His first two seasons he posted a 1,000 yard receiving total. Pair him up with Shanahan and Quarterback Jimmy Garropplo, and you have yourselves a dangerous offense. Kyle Shanahan loves having versatile players at his disposal. Cooper would be one of the most talented versatile players he’s ever had.
Amari can operate from the slot well and be used to psych out the defense on jet sweeps. He’s the perfect threat to use and put on an act against defenses. We just haven’t seen it much because, once again, he hasn’t had a play caller that utilizes all his strengths. Lastly, Kyle Shanahan is sure to feed Cooper a healthy serving of targets. Not like the inexcusable 1-3 he’s been receiving the majority of games this season. Amari would be on the last year of his deal in 2019, so it’s a bit of a risk to trade him. However, the 49ers would still have enough cap to retain him, and if he works out, it’d be a little hard to see him walking away. This trade would be the best out of all the teams in the NFL.
