Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders
Being mentioned in trade rumors consistently has seemingly caused the perception of Derek Carr to spoil, at least to an extent. He is not a high-risk quarterback that racks up tons of touchdowns at the cost of turnovers. Basically, he doesn’t play a flashy style of football.
During the 2019 season, Carr appeared in all 16 games and finished with 4,054 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Perhaps most impressive of all was the fact that he completed 70.4% of his pass attempts. Again, those numbers don’t jump off the page, but there’s room for more.
Adding Henry Ruggs III into the mix from the 2020 NFL Draft will help Carr to take more risks downfield. When considering he will be playing alongside a backfield led by Josh Jacobs and Darren Waller at tight end, there’s a lot to like about the combination of talent in the Raiders’ offense.
It’s crucial that Derek Carr doesn’t get out-dueled by Drew Lock or Tyrod Taylor when it comes to leading their respective teams to the second spot in the AFC West standings. Increasing the Raiders’ win total is paramount for Carr to raise his profile among the league’s other quarterbacks.
