1. Haskins Throws Fewer Than 10 Interceptions
Dwayne Haskins had a forgettable debut when he was inserted in an early-season game against the New York Giants. He looked unprepared for action throwing three interceptions, one that was returned for a score. Haskins would come in relief once against the Minnesota Vikings and throw an interception. As a starter, he cut down on the turnovers.
Haskins started seven games for the Washington Football Team in 2019. In those games, he threw seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Haskins improved as the season went on. He threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns against the Eagles and shredded the Giants defense the very next week. Before leaving with an injury, Haskins went 12-15 for 133 yards and two scores against an unimpressive Giants’ defense.
There will be a ton of eyes on Haskins in 2020 and many do not believe in him as a starter. It is unfair to judge a young quarterback after just seven starts, especially when he played with one of the worst units in the league. The 2020 season will be an important one for Haskins to prove that he is an NFL-caliber starter.
Washington is clearly in rebuild mode. If there is a coach that can help a young quarterback succeed, it is Ron Rivera. He did a good job with Cam Newton during his years with the Carolina Panthers. To have a strong season, Haskins will have to take care of the football. Keeping interceptions under 10 will give the franchise some faith.
