Possesses Intriguing Speed/YAC Ability
It’s difficult for a defense to slow down a reliable receiving threat at the tight end position. It’s especially tough to get the job done when the skill-set of the tight end features legitimate athleticism and an ability to gain yards after the catch with consistency.
As noted by NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah, the Giants are the fastest offensive projected lineup ahead of the 2020 season. With Darius Slayton (4.39), Saquon Barkley (4.40), Engram (4.42), Golden Tate (4.42), and Sterling Shepard (4.48), each weapon ran below a 4.5 at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Having the speed that Engram brings to the table at the tight end position provides the Giants with a real boost in the speed department. It affords him the ability to produce excellent yards after the catch figures by creating separation on routes, turning upfield quickly, etc.
The possibilities are fascinating to think about when considering defenses will have to account for Barkley in the backfield along with Tate and Slayton at receiver. There is potential for Engram to capitalize as a matchup problem with his receiving ability.
