3. Welcome to the Jonathan Taylor Show

With Marlon Mack sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Colts will be relying heavily on Jonathan Taylor in the backfield. The first outing second-round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft had as Indianapolis’ starter came against this tough Vikings defense.

There was some talk about Nyheim Hines receiving more opportunity but he ended up not even receiving a single carry in this game. It was Jordan Wilkins that played second-fiddle to Taylor but even he still received only nine carries.

The Colts displayed the utmost trust in their rookie running back by providing him with 26 carries. Taylor used those carries to rack up 101 yards and even found the end zone once.

To put it into perspective, Taylor finished with more carries (26) than Philip Rivers had passing attempts (25). While that was by the thinnest of possible margins, it’s just another example of how the Colts trusted Taylor to help maintain their lean by handing off the ball to him often.
