49ers: 5 Keystone Players to Build Around in 2019

3. Offensive Tackle Mike McGlinchey

From one great pick from this year’s Draft to another one. This one is the first pick by the 49ers in the team’s starting right tackle.

Some weren’t sure what to make of the team trading away last year’s starting right tackle, Trent Brown to New England and replacing him with McGlinchey. The move turned out perfectly for them as it’s improved the run game and provided a reliable pass protector on the right side of the line.

And the one thing that makes him such a great talent is his run blocking ability as Pro Football Focus wrote.

Yet another rookie surprising with his superb play right of the bat. Offensive line has historically been one of the steepest learning curves in our grading from college to the pros. Mike McGlinchey has basically picked up where he left off at Notre Dame, though. The right tackle has the highest run-blocking grade of any offensive linemen in the NFL after dominating in that regard his last couple years in college.

He can only go up from here as he continues to impress as the man opposite of left tackle Joe Staley. And the numbers show it.

Look to watch him become the next great offensive lineman on the 49ers as he continues to learn from his veteran best friend.
