San Francisco 49ers: 5 Players to Watch in Week 2 vs. DET

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Mike McGlinchey

From one 49ers rookie to another, the first-round offensive lineman has his work cut out for him in week two. Both right guards, Mike Person and Joshua Garnett, are both questionable to play in the next game with foot injuries.

This will mean that McGlinchey will likely be playing right guard as opposed to right tackle in service of the two injured interior linemen. He did this when both went down with their injuries in week one, and he had to compensate for the inconsistency of tackle Garry Gilliam on the right side.

He played well when he had to make the move in the offense’s desperation. However, Gilliam was continually beat off the edge by Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Including giving up a sack on a first and 20 when the 49ers were pinned on their 15-yard line.

This is going to be McGlinchey’s time to show why he was worth the ninth overall pick and prove his value.
