4. Defensive Back, DJ Reed
With the likeliness of Jimmie Ward leaving the 49ers after this year, the team needs a new versatile defensive back to take over. That leaves this up to DJ Reed who’s been all over the field in his rookie season.
The former Wildcat can handle the nickel corner spot and take over the free safety position. He’s hard-hitting despite his size and provides excellent technique when asked to play man coverage against slot receivers.
He’s flashed what he’s capable of during the preseason as he was named one of the best rookie defensive players.

With the recent poor play from second-year safety Adrian Colbert and his unfortunate injury, Reed has an opportunity to take over as the team’s starting free safety. Not to mention providing an excellent option for the single high safety look the defense works with as well.
Plus his great play and ability to do multiple positions is something that doesn’t go unnoticed. He’s making immediate impacts with the team every chance he gets. And allowing him to showcase his talents even further will only show why he was such a steal in the Draft.
