49ers: Predicting the 2020 NFL regular season record for San Francisco

Third Quarter of the Season

Week 9 vs. Green Bay Packers

In a rematch of the 2019 divisional round, the Packers and Niners are in for a showdown. It’s hard to count out Aaron Rodgers, but he has a lack of weapons on offense that makes their passing game suspect. San Francisco can focus on Davante Adams and if they can shut him down, the only other true threat is Aaron Jones.

It will be a game where the run play will carry the 49ers, with a weaker Packers’ defense. It will be a higher-scoring affair, but one that San Francisco comes out on top of to improve to 6-3.

Week 10 at New Orleans Saints

Last game before the bye week, the Saints pose as a very difficult matchup. Similar to last season’s 48-46 win, this will be a defense-optional game for both sides. For as good as both secondaries can be, each will underperform again.

Unfortunately for the 49ers, Drew Brees will outplay Garoppolo and take this victory. It’s a hard, close loss to go into the bye week, but one that the 49ers can certainly build off of.

Week 12 at Los Angeles Rams

After the loss to the Rams in Week 5, the 49ers will be coming out for blood. With a 6-4 record heading to into the final six games of the season, it’s make-it or break-it time for San Francisco. And first up is a much needed win over the Rams.

In this game, it will be the pass rush that force Goff into mistakes and bad decisions. It will be a big division win for the 49ers and bring their record up to 7-4.

Week 13 vs. Buffalo Bills

This is a very, very tough defense out in Buffalo. Their front seven is hard to play against and with the 49ers having no true dangerous threat at running back, they’ll stuff the run game. And their secondary could very easily stop the passing game as well.

It’s going to be a low-scoring game, there’s no doubt. For as good as Buffalo’s defense is, their offense isn’t as good. It will be about how to grind it out better, Josh Allen or Garoppolo, and get two touchdowns in the game. And that will be Garoppolo in a huge win for the 49ers to improve to 8-4.
