Running Backs

San Francisco had three running backs rush for 500 yards in 2019. Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman will be back this season while Matt Breida will be in Miami.

Mostert led the team with 772 rushing yards in the regular season but he had his breakout game against the Packers in the NFC title game. Mostert rushed 29 times for 220 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Niners’ offense. Mostert requested a trade during the offseason but that request did not last long. He signed a restructured contract with San Francisco that will keep him tied to the team for two years. He has a change to earn up to $5.6 million this season with all of the incentives built in.

Coleman and Jerick McKinnon will also be on the depth chart for the Niners. It was not long ago that Coleman made a name for himself as the backup to Devonta Freeman in Atlanta. McKinnon signed a four-year, $30 million contract with the Niners in 2018 but has yet to step on the field for the team. In 2020, he will make $910k after agreeing to a new contract. He will be a free agent following the season.

San Francisco leaned on their run game during their playoff run in 2019. It would not be surprising to see this part of their game succeed once again. Led by Mostert, the Niners will have plenty of options in the backfield.
