The Bears Win… On A Great Game From Mitch Trubisky

Does it get any bolder in the NFL than predicting a good game from Mitch Trubisky?

The second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the guy that the Chicago Bears traded up one spot to draft, has not exactly panned out in Chicago the way the team had envisioned. And as punishment for three seasons of inconsistent play, Trubisky was sentenced to death by quarterback battle from the hand of darling backup quarterback Nick Foles.

Except for that… Trubisky emerged from that battle victorious. It may just be for now, but Mitch Trubisky remains the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. And he’ll be taking his starting job on the road and putting it on the line against the Detroit Lions in Week One, where he could shock the world and put together an exceptional game.

Ranked 26th in points allowed per game and 31st in yards, the Detroit Lions defense presented one of the easier matchups in all the NFL back in 2019. Even with some new additions like Jamie Collins and Desmond Trufant, this is still a defense with more than its fair share of issues.

Motivated by doubt from the fanbase, a successful quarterback battle, and now being propped up by a matchup against one of the league’s weakest defenses, Trubisky could carry the Bears to victory himself. He actually did it twice back in 2019, when he had two of his best games on the year in two wins against the Lions where he combined for six touchdowns, 73% completion percentage and over 500 yards.

The Detroit defense is in better hands in 2020, but they’re still rebuilding. Trubisky could go off against them once again.
