The Kansas City Chiefs took the phrase, “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” to heart this offseason following their Super Bowl victory last season. Altogether, the Chiefs managed to retain 20 of their 22 starters from 2019 — making Reggie Ragland and Stefen Wisniewski the only starters to depart in free agency.
While Kansas City wanted to bring back as much of their roster as possible, they also didn’t have much cap space to work with this offseason. Therefore, the Chiefs didn’t have — and still don’t have — much money to spend when it comes to signing free agents.
As a matter of fact, there was a brief moment this offseason where Kansas City had only $177 in cap space to their name. Since then, they’ve restructured contracts and freed up money in a variety of ways to give them $6.2 million to work with for the rest of the offseason.
With that in mind, Kansas City now has some wiggle room to add a veteran or two ahead of the 2020 NFL season. Seeing that there’s an abundance of talented free agents still remaining, which ones should the Chiefs consider in the coming months?
