Dallas Cowboys: 5 Reasons They Will Win the NFC East

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Tavon Austin

Many know Tavon Austin as the electric wide receiver who was drafted eighth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft by the (then) St. Louis Rams. He never lived up to the expectations in St. Louis/Los Angeles, but he finds himself with a fresh start in Dallas for the 2018 season.

The Cowboys have longed thrived for a player who was a receiver but also could play a running back role. They had tried it with Lucky Whitehead and more recently Ryan Switzer. Switzer was a receiver in his time at North Carolina, but in an interview with Patrick Walker of 247 Sports, Switzer stated how the Cowboys talked about his high school days in which he was a running back. With the addition of Austin, the Cowboys now have the player they have been looking for.

The Cowboys have said they will use Austin in a variety of packages, which will make it hard for opposing defenses to keep track of him. Tavon is an explosive playmaker who will see reps at receiver, in special teams, and possibly as a running back.

Austin is a major X-Factor for the Cowboys’ offense heading into the 2018 season.
